A few days ago, I received an email from Molly Flora, Spa Manager at Auberge du Soleil. Molly has put into action a plan to give back to healthcare workers in the Bay Area.
“I am hoping to put together boxes to send to our Bay Area hospitals and medical teams that have been incredibly impacted by the COVID-19 crisis,” she wrote. I’m sharing Molly’s story in the hopes that those in our industry can help her with her request—and that her act of kindness will serve as a model for others.
The backstory: Molly’s brother, a retired Army veteran, is currently a nurse at the Mayo Clinic in Wisconsin who works at the VA on his days off. “He is truly one of the best people I’ve ever met,” shares Molly. “He loves to tell his teammates that his sister works in the spa industry, a far cry from my days as a zookeeper.”
I’m sharing Molly’s story in the hopes that those in our industry can help her with her request—and that her act of kindness will serve as a model for others.
As you can imagine, and many of you know firsthand, spa managers and directors end up with a lot of skincare samples and products. Molly, who admits to a “skincare hoarding problem,” had a large bin of samples and full-size products that she sent to her brother this past Christmas to share with his hard-working teams.
“They went crazy for it,” recalls Molly, “Skincare lines and products they had not only never heard of, but never before had access to.” Since then, Molly has sent a box to her brother as often as she could. Now, amidst the Covid-19 crisis, Molly would like to help our overworked healthcare workers find some relief and time for self-care. She has written to several skincare lines, CBD lines, and self-care product lines, requesting samples that she could purchase at a reduced price. Kudos to Kim Wellen with Mantra Mask and Ira Green with Freedom deodorant, who responded to Molly’s request within 24 hours.
The types of products Molly is seeking: Body lotion; body butter; hand lotion; hand salve; body oil; sore muscle salve/balm; lip balm; deodorant cloth wipes; dry shampoo; hand soap; facial cleansers/masks/serums; essential oils, and candles.
